CALL TO REMOVE ATTORNEY DORNFELD AND ATTORNEY COUSINEAU FROM THE TASK FORCE RE H.B. 6685!

Dear Supporters of Bill 6685:

We would like to provide an update regarding Bill 6685 and ask that you give this email your immediate attention. As you know, Bill 6685 was presented to the Connecticut Judicial Committee on April 5, 2013 in hopes of changing the laws concerning our broken family court system.

Cases throughout the State have demonstrated how the majority of the Guardian Ad Litem's throughout the state, as well as the attorney's are more interested in their financial best interest than our children's best interest. Despite our bill not being passed this year, we were pleased that our legislators agreed to put together a task force in hopes of fixing this systemic problem.

Things need to change so that our children are protected and parents are not being taken advantage of by Guardian Ad Litems, Attorney's for the Minor Children, Court Appointed Therapists and the list goes on and on as you all know. At the Rally we held in March with over 200 in attendance, we said it on Fox 61 with Laurie Perez, we said it on numerous radio stations throughout Connecticut, we said it in the newspapers and we said it on April 5th in front of our elected legislators; THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN and the only ones benefitting are Court-Appointed Guardian Ad Litems and Attorneys.

As you will see below in the language of the task force, Representative Brendan Sharkey and Senator Donald Williams had the responsibility of appointing the Chair and Co-chair of our task force. After learning of their appointments, we question the following:

1. Why should an individual representing the CT Bar Association, who testified on April 5, 2013 opposing Bill 6685 be the Chair of our task force? It is also our understanding that Atty Dornfeld is a career GAL and heads up the GAL training. It's a conflict of interest.

2. Why should any individual who appears to be part of the problem and who directly benefits from the problem be chairing this task force?  Attorney/GAL Sue Cousineau is the Co-chair who, in our opinion can't possibly be objective.

As one unnamed legislator summarized it best, "It's like having the fox guard the hen house."

We urge you to call within the next few days to express your dissatisfaction of these appointments as well.
